The Salinas Nature Reserve spans 8,560 acres along the southwest coast of Long Island, Bahamas.

Previously functioning as an industrial Diamond Crystal Salt complex, the coastal lagoons are home to mangrove forests, shorebird habitats, canals, shallow ponds, and lakes adjacent to a sandy, leeward-facing coastline.

Southern Long Island is a wildlife refuge for many critical terrestrial and marine species

Sandy beaches, as well as small inland islands throughout the lagoon system, are vital rest stops for migratory shorebirds, such as Snowy Plover. The island’s protected intertidal creeks serve as a nursery site for Nassau Grouper, bonefish, conch and lemon sharks. Just off the coast, reefs provide habitat for many species of fish, stingray and coral.
